Abstract
Numerous recent works deal with the calculation of forces for the calculation of noise and vibrations in the electrical machines. The main difficulty lies in the methodology for identifying the loudest rotating force wave. The two methods used to calculate the magnetic forces are the Virtual Works Principle (VWP). and the Maxwell Tensor (MT). This paper discusses vibrations obtained on a surface magnet machine thanks to 2-D Finite Element (EF) electromagnetic resolution and a EF 3-D harmonic mechanical simulation. The results of two separate calculations are compared: one case with the VWP, and the other case based on the MT. In particular, the aim of this work is to study the effect of teeth mechanical modulation. This effect results in filter out rotating waves of forces because of the discrete nature of the stator teeth. Two different methods to account for the modulation effect are compared to the VWP results for the studied machine. This work shows that one of the two methods is more relevant than the other.
